Welcome to SVP 1833...

Who we are

SVP 1833 started in 2007 as a voluntary group for young adults (18 - 30+) to come together to help people in need.

We are part of the international Christian voluntary organisation called the Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) and we share the same spiritual values and ethos.

The name SVP 1833 recalls the year in which the Society was started by a young student who wanted to help the poor. 20 year old Frederic Ozanam was challenged to demonstrate his faith in action. With a group of friends he started a "Conference of charity". SVP groups today are still known as "Conferences".

There are Conferences based at Universities and in church parishes in towns and cities. Membership is steadily growing throughout England & Wales.

What we do

At SVP 1833 we are involved in various activities to help people in need. Members meet regularly, often with a spiritual adviser, who may be a university chaplain or an experienced SVP member, to reflect on their activities in the light of the Gospel.

Why Join SVP 1833?

Volunteering to help people gives you more confidence, helps you to feel good about yourself and most importantly makes a real difference to the lives of others.

As young adults we have so much to give to those who have less than ourselves and SVP 1833 gives us a chance to put Christianity into action.
