Management Accountant - Bradford
The St Vincent de Paul Society (or as it is often known – the SVP) is an international Christian charity dedicated to tackling poverty by providing practical help to those in need through local community projects and a network of 10,000 volunteer members.

I am currently recruiting for an experienced and qualified Management Accountant to produce accurate, timely management accounts for all projects. You will assist the Head of Finance in providing financial advice and support to department heads and senior managers throughout the organisation. This is a busy organisation and the role demands excellent technical skills.

Working Hours = You will be contracted to 37.5 hours per week working Monday to Friday.
Salary = Competitive - £35,000 to £38,000 depending on experience.
Holidays = The society offers 33 days holiday per year which includes bank holidays.
Benefits = Generous pension scheme & Life assurance.

The main duties of the Management Accountant will include – 
•    Ensuring that accounting entries for all entities are processed on an accurate and timely basis
•    Performing reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts at least monthly
•    Identifying and resolving discrepancies in accounts
•    Maintaining accounting records
•    Preparing monthly management accounts along with appropriate variance analysis
•    Assisting the Head of Finance with year-end accounts

It is essential for the successful Management Accountant to demonstrate the following – 
•    Appropriate accounting qualification supported by suitable experience
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Good organisational and time management skills
•    Impeccable attention to detail
•    Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
•    Ability to work under own initiative with minimal supervision
•    IT skills – Advanced excel skills (SUMIFS, VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables)
•    Willingness to travel occasionally for projects and meetings
•    Highly motivated and enthusiastic
•    Empathy with the Society’s ethos and values

Senior Conference Finance Officer - Bradford
The St Vincent de Paul Society (or as it is often known – the SVP) is an international Christian charity dedicated to tackling poverty by providing practical help to those in need through local community projects and a network of 10,000 volunteer members.

The Society's members form local groups called Conferences which each have their own volunteer Treasurer and their own financial books and records. These local groups submit quarterly financial information for inclusion in the Society's consolidated financial records.

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Finance Officer to work closely with our conferences. We currently have over 1000 active conferences therefore this is a busy role. The ideal candidate will have professional accounting qualifications with solid financial work experience.

Working Hours = You will be contracted to 37.5 hours per week working Monday to Friday.
Salary = Competitive - £21,000 to £23,000 depending on experience.
Holidays = The society offers 33 days holiday per year which includes bank holidays.

The main duties of the Senior Conference Finance Officer will include – 
•    Inputting and checking completed financial returns received from treasurers
•    Responding to complex queries through email and on the telephone
•    Assisting the Management Accountant with quarterly reconciliations and year end accounts
•    Constantly reviewing and improving processes and documents used
•    Managing bank mandates for the conference bank accounts
•    Providing financial advice and training to conferences as required

The successful Finance Officer will have solid finance experience working in a busy office. It is essential for the candidate to demonstrate the following – 
•    Appropriate accounting qualification (e.g. AAT level 3 or 4)
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Good organisational and time management skills
•    Impeccable attention to detail
•    Ability to work under own initiative with minimal supervision

Previous voluntary sector or branch based accounting experience would be advantageous but is not essential. Some travel within the UK will be required for meetings, as well as occasional attendance at events during evenings and weekends.

Van Driver / Handler = Sheffield Furniture Store

I am currently recruiting for an experienced 3T Van Driver / Handler to work with one of our depots based in Central Sheffield. The St Vincent de Paul Society (or as it is often known - the SVP) is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need.

The main duties of the Van Driver / Handler will involve –
•    Collecting and delivering goods = This will include loading/unloading at stores and client home addresses as well as contacting clients and referral agencies to advise on delivery times and dates.
•    Rotating stock within the store and ensuring relevant stock is ready to be loaded into vans.
•    Performing regular vehicle inspections according to the vehicle check list.
•    Supervising volunteers and pay back individuals on site.

The successful applicant will ideally have experience working in a busy customer focused environment. It is essential for the candidate to demonstrate the following –
•    Good written and verbal skills
•    Good standard of numeracy and literacy
•    Good interpersonal and social skills
•    Ability to work within a team efficiently
•    Ability to converse with donors and clients
•    Good organisational and time management skills

Shop Manager - Birkenhead

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Retail Manager to work in one of our stores based in Birkenhead. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in achieving targets and experience in managing staff and volunteers. The main duties of the Shop Manager will involve –
•    Managing a busy charity shop whilst leading a team of dedicated workers and volunteers.
•    Developing and delivering on the shops business plan
•    Ensuring that targets are met and exceeded consistently
•    Offering outstanding customer service
•    Maintaining excellent merchandising standards

The successful applicant will have experience working in a retail environment. It is essential for the candidate to demonstrate the following –

Volunteer Opportunities (London SE17)

We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfil the following roles at our National Office based at Elephant & Castle, London.  We will reimburse your travel costs and pay for lunch up to £3.50.
 

Volunteer Database Assistant (London SE17)

We are currently looking for a Volunteer to assist the Database Officer based at our officers in Elephant & Castle - London

Maintaining a database of over 10,000 people can be a challenge.  The volunteer database assistant will help with the following:

Maintaining records
Entering new records
Making amendments
Making phone calls
Filing documents

Volunteer Office Assistant – Youth Department (London SE17)

Help young people to make a difference in society with their own charitable works, whilst gaining great experience in a third sector organisation.

Key tasks include:

  • Providing support in the day to day work of a large charity, in support of its various projects, which includes: answering phones, data input, filing, research, arranging meetings and general admin;
  • Planning, creating and implementing social media campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as emerging social platforms;
  • Assisting with Fundraising
  • Other ad hoc duties & office administration.

Volunteer Office Assistant Youth Department Role Description

 

Design Volunteers (Publications) - London SE17

  • National Office, London (near Elephant & Castle tube station)
  • 2/3 days per week – 10.00am – 4.00pm
  • Remuneration: £6.00/day towards travel and up to £3.50/day towards lunch

To assist with the production of SVP publications, including:

  • Annual Report
  • Friends Newsletter
  • Staff Newsletter
  • Other leaflets, flyers and posters

It is necessary that applicants are able to use Quark and Photoshop.

Volunteer Opportunities (UK-wide)
We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfill the following roles at locations throughout the country.

Community Shop Volunteers

  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Shop volunteers of varying descriptions and skills are currently required at our Community Shops across the country. All aspects of work involved with running a busy Community Charity Shop including: sorting and pricing, stock preparation and replenishment, cash handling and serving customers, merchandising and display, etc.

Collection/Delivery Volunteers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Collection and delivery volunteers are needed to assist the driver in collecting donations and delivering from the shop. 

Driver Volunteers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Volunteer drivers are needed to cover and support the regular driver on the van, assist in offering weekend/evening collections and deliveries. Use of own car would be an advantage. 

Electrical Appliance Engineers & PAT Testers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Electrical appliance engineers and PAT testers are needed to test and/or refurbish white goods and small electrical appliances prior to sale in the shop. 

All of the shop positions listed above are unpaid, but reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed and tea and coffee provided as well as staff discount on items sold in the shops.
