Support Worker -  £16,750 (pending pay review April 2017)

This is a full time role (37.5 hours per week including weekends, shifts & lone working on a rolling rota basis, between 7.15 and 22.00 hours) within the charity's homelessness accommodation based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Ensure that vulnerable people with multiple or complex needs, and at times challenging behaviour, are supported to achieve greater independence and fulfilled lives. Support service users to assess their individual needs and deliver person centred support plans which help them achieve their goals.

Responsibilities include:

Devise and agree person centred support plans and facilitate methods to promote service user engagement and successful outcomes. Empower service users by supporting their decision making, recognizing and encouraging their own abilities to achieve their goals. 

Ensure safety issues relating to all service users are assessed on entry to the service and on an ongoing basis as part of support planning. Complete and update risk assessments and deliver support in line with risk management plans.

Support service users in the process of moving to permanent or new accommodation, ensuring that all practical issues in relation to their accommodation are addressed

Work in partnership with statutory, voluntary and private agencies, including social services and the police, for the benefit of service users e.g. information sharing protocols, joint referral agreements, etc. including attending statutory appointments in order to comply with treatment or criminal justice requirements

Work with partners to ensure service users are safeguarded and protected from abuse by being aware of and applying organizational and local authority safeguarding protocols. Ensure incidents are recorded and responded to and plans implemented. Operate professional boundaries and support others to do so. Ensure service users understand how they will be protected from abuse.

Comply with confidentiality policies and Data Protection, ensuring data and documentation are recorded accurately and stored safely.

Maintain files and records of work, in a manner that will ensure efficiency and accountability.

Experience of working within a homelessness provision or service would be an advantage.

Alongside a competitive salary (£16,750) the Society offers a generous pension scheme and 5 weeks’ annual leave (plus statutory bank holidays) for all employees (pro rata). If appropriate, the Society will fund and provide paid leave to attend formal training in relation to the role.

Volunteer Opportunities (London SE17)

We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfil the following roles at our National Office based at Elephant & Castle, London.  We will reimburse your travel costs and pay for lunch up to £3.50.
 

Volunteer Database Assistant (London SE17)

We are currently looking for a Volunteer to assist the Database Officer based at our officers in Elephant & Castle - London

Maintaining a database of over 10,000 people can be a challenge.  The volunteer database assistant will help with the following:

Maintaining records
Entering new records
Making amendments
Making phone calls
Filing documents

Volunteer Office Assistant – Youth Department (London SE17)

Help young people to make a difference in society with their own charitable works, whilst gaining great experience in a third sector organisation.

Key tasks include:

  • Providing support in the day to day work of a large charity, in support of its various projects, which includes: answering phones, data input, filing, research, arranging meetings and general admin;
  • Planning, creating and implementing social media campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as emerging social platforms;
  • Assisting with Fundraising
  • Other ad hoc duties & office administration.

The position is for a minimum of 1 day a week and starts immediately with travel (£6 per day) and food (£3.50 per day) expenses paid, according to valid receipts. For more information download the following document:

Volunteer Office Assistant Youth Department Role Description

 

Design Volunteers (Publications) - London SE17

  • National Office, London (near Elephant & Castle tube station)
  • 2/3 days per week – 10.00am – 4.00pm
  • Remuneration: £6.00/day towards travel and up to £3.50/day towards lunch

To assist with the production of SVP publications, including:

  • Annual Report
  • Friends Newsletter
  • Staff Newsletter
  • Other leaflets, flyers and posters

It is necessary that applicants are able to use Quark and Photoshop.

Volunteer Opportunities (UK-wide)
We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfill the following roles at locations throughout the country.

Community Shop Volunteers

  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Shop volunteers of varying descriptions and skills are currently required at our Community Shops across the country. All aspects of work involved with running a busy Community Charity Shop including: sorting and pricing, stock preparation and replenishment, cash handling and serving customers, merchandising and display, etc.

Collection/Delivery Volunteers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Collection and delivery volunteers are needed to assist the driver in collecting donations and delivering from the shop. 

Driver Volunteers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Volunteer drivers are needed to cover and support the regular driver on the van, assist in offering weekend/evening collections and deliveries. Use of own car would be an advantage. 

Electrical Appliance Engineers & PAT Testers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Electrical appliance engineers and PAT testers are needed to test and/or refurbish white goods and small electrical appliances prior to sale in the shop. 

All of the shop positions listed above are unpaid, but reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed and tea and coffee provided as well as staff discount on items sold in the shops.
