The post holder will be managing a busy community shop in Broadfield and lead a team of dedicated volunteers. You should have previous experience in managing a community shop and be able to balance delivering shop income/profits with supporting the Society’s charitable aims to serve those in need. The Shop Manager will be responsible for ensuring all relevant policies & procedures are adhered to and for supervising staff and volunteers.

The ideal candidate will empathise with the Society’s ethos and values and actively work with local SVP members.

He/she will have good written and verbal communication skills and a high standard of retail and merchandising expertise.

Job Description: Shop Manager


We are seeking to recruit a Web Project Manager to join the Young Vinentians team at the SVP. This is a chance to source, collaborate and manage a team to develop an eLearning web solution fit for our young volunteers and their beneficiaries. 

This is a part time post for 18.75 hours a week, allowing for flexible timetabling, in a temporary contract.

Salary: £32,000 pro rata

The post holder will work primarily at the National Office with some work from home.

Conference Management Accountant

We are looking for an exceptional Management Accountant to manage our volunteer groups’ financial returns.

We have over 1,000 volunteer groups across the country who each submits quarterly financial reports. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the processing and reporting of these returns. Exceptional Excel skills will be needed to ensure that large amounts of data can be efficiently reviewed and arranged. 

Our local Treasurers are a very dedicated group but as volunteers they will have varying levels of experience. The person appointed will need to be able to offer training and support to these Treasurers. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, will be necessary to convey financial requirements in a way that non-finance people will be able to follow and appreciate.

We often have volunteers in finance who provide assistance with processing and filing. The Management Accountant will be responsible for recruiting, training and supporting these volunteers.

The Management Accountant will provide cover for the Head of Finance and provide assistance with the preparation of year end accounts and management accounts.

We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfil the following roles at our National Office based at Elephant & Castle, London.  We will reimburse your travel costs and pay for lunch up to £3.50.

Volunteer Database Assistant (London SE17)

We are currently looking for a Volunteer to assist the Database Officer based at our officers in Elephant & Castle - London

Maintaining a database of over 10,000 people can be a challenge.  The volunteer database assistant will help with the following:

Maintaining records
Entering new records
Making amendments
Making phone calls
Filing documents

Volunteer Office Assistant – Youth Department (London SE17)

Help young people to make a difference in society with their own charitable works, whilst gaining great experience in a third sector organisation.

Key tasks include:

  • Providing support in the day to day work of a large charity, in support of its various projects, which includes: answering phones, data input, filing, research, arranging meetings and general admin;
  • Planning, creating and implementing social media campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as emerging social platforms;
  • Assisting with Fundraising
  • Other ad hoc duties & office administration.

Design Volunteers (Publications) - London SE17

We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfill the following roles at locations throughout the country.

Community Shop Volunteers

  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Shop volunteers of varying descriptions and skills are currently required at our Community Shops across the country. All aspects of work involved with running a busy Community Charity Shop including: sorting and pricing, stock preparation and replenishment, cash handling and serving customers, merchandising and display, etc.

Collection/Delivery Volunteers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Collection and delivery volunteers are needed to assist the driver in collecting donations and delivering from the shop. 

Driver Volunteers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Volunteer drivers are needed to cover and support the regular driver on the van, assist in offering weekend/evening collections and deliveries. Use of own car would be an advantage. 

Electrical Appliance Engineers & PAT Testers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Electrical appliance engineers and PAT testers are needed to test and/or refurbish white goods and small electrical appliances prior to sale in the shop. 

All of the shop positions listed above are unpaid, but reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed and tea and coffee provided as well as staff discount on items sold in the shops.
