Finance Manager - National Finance Department, Bradford

Full Time: 37.5 Hours per week

Salary: £27k-£30k pa depending on experience

Your main responsibility will be the production of accurate and timely monthly management accounts for all projects. You will also assist the Head of Finance in providing financial advice and support to department heads and senior managers throughout the organisation. You will manage a team of three responsible for day-to-day income and expenditure processing.

You will be an experienced and enthusiastic qualified accountant with both excellent technical skills and the ability to communicate and work with stakeholders at all levels throughout the organisation. You will both highly organised and able to work under your own initiative to solve problems and improve processes.

The role would suit an ambitious newly qualified accountant looking for a first industry role or an experienced management accountant looking for a new challenge in a complex, fast moving environment.

Previous voluntary sector or retail experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

Alongside a competitive salary (£28,000 to £30,000 depending on experience) the Society offers a generous pension scheme and 5 weeks annual leave (plus statutory bank holidays) for all employees. Some travel within the UK will be required for meetings and project visits, as well as occasional attendance at meetings during evenings and weekends.

Head of Conference Accounts 

This role is a fixed term contract to 31 December 2017 to cover maternity leave (with the potential for extension or to become permanent).

Full Time: 37.5 Hours per week

Salary: £31k-£35k pa depending on experience

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will take responsibility for accounting for the Society's 1,200 Conferences and Councils, your main responsibility will be managing the collation, scrutiny and recording of quarterly financial information.

You will also provide financial advice and training to Conference and Council Treasurers as required. You will manage the Conference Finance Officer who is responsible for the day-to-day recording of Conference financial returns as they are received.

You will be an experienced and enthusiastic qualified accountant with both excellent technical skills (particularly the ability to manage large volumes of data) and the ability to communicate and work with Treasurers with significantly varying levels of financial experience. You will both highly organised and able to work under your own initiative to solve problems and improve processes.

The role would suit an ambitious newly qualified accountant looking for a first industry role or an experienced accountant looking for a different challenge.

Previous voluntary sector or branch based accounting experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

Payroll & HR Admin Officer - National Finance Department, Bradford

Full Time: 37.5 Hours per week

Salary: £19,000-£22,500 pa depending on experience

Working to the Head of Finance, your main responsibilities will be the complete processing of the monthly payroll and the management of the Society’s HR database. You will also provide basic HR administrative support to line managers, including issuing contracts and standard HR letters and calculating holiday entitlements.

You will have substantial experience in preparing payrolls and will have a good working knowledge of HR administrative procedures. You will have impeccable attention to detail and excellent IT skills, including the ability to extract and analyse data from a variety of sources.

A suitable HR administration or payroll qualification would be beneficial but is not essential.

Finance Assistant (Accounts Payable) - National Finance Department, Bradford

Full Time: 37.5 Hours per week

Salary: £12,750-£14,625 pa depending on experience

You will be responsible for processing and accounting for the Society’s purchase invoices and other items of expenditure across our nearly 50 projects nationally.

You will liaise with our external suppliers and managers across the organisation to ensure we pay the right amounts to our suppliers within agreed timescales. You will also help to ensure the Society achieves value for money through its procurement.

If you haven’t worked in an accounts or finance based role before don’t worry, for the right candidate we would look to offer formal training through an AAT apprenticeship. If you are bright and ambitious, this could be the start of an exciting career within accounting.

You will have excellent attention to detail and will adapt to new processes and systems quickly. Experience in an office based role would be an advantage but is not essential.

Alongside a competitive salary (£12,750 to £14,625 depending on experience) the Society offers a generous pension scheme and 5 weeks annual leave (plus statutory bank holidays) for all employees. If appropriate the Society will fund and provide paid leave to attend formal training in relation to the role.

Finance Officer (Income Processing and Accounts Payable) - National Finance Department, Bradford

Full Time: 37.5 Hours per week

Salary: £19,000-£22,500 pa depending on experience

You will be responsible for overseeing processing and accounting for the Society’s income and expenditure across our nearly 50 projects nationally. Working to the Finance Manager you will have a key role in ensuring that key finance service standards are met and will supervise two Finance Assistants.

The Society has a variety of diverse income streams including charity shops, fundraising events and room hire, you will ensure that all the income due to the charity is received and recognised correctly. You will also make sure all our suppliers are paid the right amounts within agreed credit periods.

You will be a problem solver who is not afraid of a challenge and will be able to work with minimal supervision. You will also be an excellent communicator able to work with (and challenge) employees and volunteers throughout the charity.

You will be AAT qualified or have equivalent experience. Ideally you will have experience of a fast paced, high volume finance environment and charity or retail experience would be an advantage.

You will be responsible for receiving, reviewing and processing quarterly financial returns from the Society’s Conferences and Councils. Working to the Head of Conference Accounts you will ensure the financial information from our Conferences and Councils are accurately included in our national financial records.

You will need to have absolute attention to detail and accurate data entry skills. Whilst a good knowledge of accounting principles is important, as important will be your ability to communicate with and assist volunteer Conference and Council Treasurers who have a varied level of financial and accounting experience to resolve queries and ensure the accuracy of our financial records.

You will be AAT qualified or have equivalent experience. You will need to have good IT (particularly Excel) skills and experience of branch based accounting would be an advantage.

Assistant Shop Manager – Bury town centre (Manchester)

Part Time: 15 hours per week, including weekends

Salary £7.36 p/hour

25 days holiday pro rata plus Bank Holidays

The SVP is seeking to recruit an Assistant Shop Manager, for our new shop in Bury, town centre, a thriving and popular retail area. 

You will help manage a busy charity shop and lead a team of dedicated volunteers.  Previous experience in retail and / or charity shop management would be beneficial, but not essential.

We are looking for someone with drive and enthusiasm who will be able to achieve sales target as well as supporting the Society’s charitable aims to serve those in need.   This is a great opportunity to manage your own shop and to make a difference to people in the local community who are in need. 

You will have good verbal and written skills, and be IT literate.  Strong organisational skills and initiative are essential.

Volunteer Coordinator- (Leeds LS9)

We are recruiting for a Volunteer Coordinator to join our team. If you are looking for a job that will really make a difference and like helping others then this may be the job for you.  

Based in Leeds & working across SVP sites in West Yorkshire, the Volunteer Co-ordinator will be responsible for coordinating the ongoing development and delivery of our large volunteering programme. This will mean working with the team to ensure that all volunteers are given the best experience during their time in the SVP which will make sure that the organisation continues to help those in need in the area through services and support.

If you are a people person with excellent communication skills and an ability to help us promote and shape the services, then we would love to hear from you.   

You will also need to have a full British driving licence and access to your own vehicle. Due to the nature of the role, a DBS will be required.

Volunteer Opportunities (London SE17)

We are currently looking for volunteers to fulfil the following roles at our National Office based at Elephant & Castle, London.  We will reimburse your travel costs and pay for lunch up to £3.50.
 

Volunteer Database Assistant (London SE17)

We are currently looking for a Volunteer to assist the Database Officer based at our officers in Elephant & Castle - London

Maintaining a database of over 10,000 people can be a challenge.  The volunteer database assistant will help with the following:

Maintaining records
Entering new records
Making amendments
Making phone calls
Filing documents

Volunteer Office Assistant – Youth Department (London SE17)

Help young people to make a difference in society with their own charitable works, whilst gaining great experience in a third sector organisation.

Key tasks include:

  • Providing support in the day to day work of a large charity, in support of its various projects, which includes: answering phones, data input, filing, research, arranging meetings and general admin;
  • Planning, creating and implementing social media campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as emerging social platforms;
  • Assisting with Fundraising
  • Other ad hoc duties & office administration.

The position is for a minimum of 1 day a week and starts immediately with travel (£6 per day) and food (£3.50 per day) expenses paid, according to valid receipts. For more information download the following document:

Design Volunteers (Publications) - London SE17

  • National Office, London (near Elephant & Castle tube station)
  • 2/3 days per week – 10.00am – 4.00pm
  • Remuneration: £6.00/day towards travel and up to £3.50/day towards lunch

Community Shop Volunteers

  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Shop volunteers of varying descriptions and skills are currently required at our Community Shops across the country. All aspects of work involved with running a busy Community Charity Shop including: sorting and pricing, stock preparation and replenishment, cash handling and serving customers, merchandising and display, etc.

Collection/Delivery Volunteers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Collection and delivery volunteers are needed to assist the driver in collecting donations and delivering from the shop. 

Driver Volunteers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Volunteer drivers are needed to cover and support the regular driver on the van, assist in offering weekend/evening collections and deliveries. Use of own car would be an advantage. 

Electrical Appliance Engineers & PAT Testers
  • Locations include: Leeds, Hallam, Manchester, Wirral, Tyne and London
  • Hours are flexible
  • Expenses / Tea & Coffee / Staff Discount in SVP shops

Electrical appliance engineers and PAT testers are needed to test and/or refurbish white goods and small electrical appliances prior to sale in the shop. 

All of the shop positions listed above are unpaid, but reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed and tea and coffee provided as well as staff discount on items sold in the shops.
