We are currently looking for people who are interested in joining our dedicated volunteering team at St Vincent’s Social Enterprise and Superstore in Bradford.

Anyone is welcome to volunteer. You will be serving the local community, helping those in need as well as gaining invaluable experience and developing customer service skills.

We are currently recruiting for the following roles across the centre, shop and depot:

Volunteer Cashier, Reception and Shop Duties

Role Summary
This role aims to provide a friendly welcoming first point of contact for members of the public accessing services in the centre or purchasing items from the shop. During quieter times, the role will support other shop volunteers and help with general shop duties.


Main Duties Include:
• Dealing with a variety of enquiries
• Processing customer sales using a cash register and handling money
• Receiving customer donations
• Promoting and helping customer Gift Aid Donation
• Help keep the shop clean and tidy
• Pricing all stock as required, rotate stock and colour coordinate


Skills and Experience
• Experience of using a cash register (or a willingness to learn)
• Good verbal communication skills - must be able to listen to and understand customer enquiries.
• Warm and friendly person with positive attitude towards helping people.
• Legible handwriting to complete customer delivery notes & price labels
• Trustworthy and capable of being able to work unsupervised at times

Commitment required
Cashier, Reception and Shop Duty volunteers will be required to commit 7.5 hours of their time on a set day each week.

Induction, Training and Development
Each volunteer will receive an induction and training will be available in all aspects of the role.

Volunteer eBay Assistant

Role Summary
The role of Volunteer eBay Assistant will assist in selecting, listing, and preparing items for sale on eBay.

Main Duties Include:
• Follow SVP eBay procedures
• Research items to find out their potential value
• Photograph and catalogue items on SVP spreadsheet
• Write descriptions and list items on eBay
• Package items ready for posting Skills and Experience
• Knowledge of fashion trends and prices (or a willingness to learn)
• Basic IT skills
• Good customer service skills
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently

Commitment required
Volunteer eBay Assistants will be required to commit 4 hours (10am-2pm) of their time on a set day each week.

Induction, Training and Development
Each volunteer will receive an induction and training will be available in all aspects of the role.

Volunteer Shop Floor Assistant

Role Summary
The role of Shop Floor Assistant helps to keep the shop environment tidy, safe and pleasant for customers to shop in.

Main Duties Include
• Colour coordination – ensure the section is bright and in colour order
• Window displays – create an eye-catching display to encourage new customers
• Stock rotation – take clothing donations off the rails to ensure new stock is available
• Shop displays – dress mannequins to showcase clothing items Skills and Experience
• Knowledge of fashion trends and prices (or a willingness to learn)
• Must be able to work as part of a team
• Warm and friendly person with helpful attitude towards helping people.
• Trustworthy and capable of being able to work unsupervised at times
• Awareness of safety and workplace hazards.
• Experience of working with vulnerable adults and an understanding of the voluntary sector desirable but not essential

Commitment required
Volunteer Shop Floor Assistants will be required to commit 7.5 hours of their time on a set day each week.

Volunteer Stock Sorter

Role Summary
The role of Stock Sorter is backroom task which involves sorting customer donations, pricing and tagging items ready for sale.

Main Duties Include
• Sorting donations and checking items for cleanliness
• Processing saleable stock and dealing with substandard donations in the appropriate manner
• Checking shop floor stock and sourcing items to fill gaps
• Steam clothing to make them more desirable
• Tidying donation room Skills and Experience
• Knowledge of fashion trends and prices (or a willingness to learn)
• Enthusiastic, positive, and committed attitude with a flexible approach to tasks 
• The ability to take direction and to work as part of a team
• Trustworthy and capable of being able to work independently at times
• Experience of working with vulnerable adults and an understanding of the voluntary sector desirable but not essential
• Awareness of safety and workplace hazards.

Commitment required
Volunteer Stocker Sorters will be required to commit 4.5 hours of their time on a set day each week.

Volunteer Administration Assistant

Role Summary
To provide administration support to the staff and volunteers at St Vincent’s Bradford Depot.

Main Duties Include
• Answering the telephone and dealing with queries in a professional and courteous manner and redirecting calls where appropriate.
• Office tasks including filing, accurate data input, photocopying.
• To take bookings and co-ordinate customer’s requirements for collection and delivery service of furniture Skills and Experience
• Good interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and customers from all backgrounds
• Ability to maintain professional standards of confidentiality regarding all aspects of the work of the depot
• Good computer skills and a basic level of numeric understanding
• Awareness of Health and Safety Procedures within the depot 
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed attitude
• Ability to take direction and to work as part of a team
• Trustworthy and capable of being able to work independently at times
• Experience of working with vulnerable adults and an understanding of the voluntary sector desirable but not essential

Commitment required
Volunteer Administration Assistants will be required to commit 4 hours of their time one day each week.

Induction, Training and Development
Each volunteer will receive an induction and training will be available in all aspects of the role.

Volunteer PAT Tester

Role Summary
This role will be working with a small team to P.A.T, carry out function testing, cleaning, and labelling electrical goods ready for sale in our community shops.

Main Duties Include
• Assessing, testing using the appropriate machine and function testing small electrical goods for faults, missing parts, safety and cleanliness.
• Carrying out PAT testing of shop equipment
• Carrying out minor re-wiring and cleaning of stock
• Maintain the Portable Appliance Area and equipment, making sure it is clean and tidy and free from hazards.
• Labelling stock
• Completion of documentation for all work carried out.

Skills and Experience
• Have the relevant PAT qualification 
• Practical skills using hand tools
• Ability to solve simple problems
• Good attention to detail
• Be self-motivated and be able to work with little supervision
• Knowledge of electrical safety
• Read and write simple labels and complete test documentation forms

Commitment required
Volunteer PAT Testers will be required to commit 2 hours of their time per week.

Volunteer Van Drivers Assistant

Role Summary
To assist the van driver while collecting and/or delivering furniture and to support staff and volunteers working in the warehouse.

Main Duties Include
• Assist the driver with the loading and unloading of the vans working with the assigned delivery and collection team to ensure that all loads are secured safely.
• Communicate with customers when collecting and delivering goods to meet service standards and customer expectations.
• Communicate with staff and volunteers at the depot, shops and centres about deliveries and collections.
• General warehouse work
• The role involves the heavy lifting of furniture and other household items

Skills and Experience
• Good interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and customers from all backgrounds
• Ability to maintain professional standards of confidentiality regarding all aspects of the work of the depot
• Awareness of Health and Safety Procedures within the depot
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed attitude
• Ability to take direction and to work as part of a team
• Trustworthy and capable of being able to work independently at times
• Experience of working with vulnerable adults and an understanding of the voluntary sector desirable but not essential

Commitment required
Volunteer Van Driver’s Assistants will be required to commit 8 hours of their time one day each week.

Induction, Training and Development
Each volunteer will receive an induction and training will be available in all aspects of the role.

Volunteer Warehouse Operative

Role Summary
To assist staff and volunteers with day-to-day operations of the depot by helping to fulfil referrals, prepare deliveries, receive donations, and help with customer enquiries.

Main Duties Include
• Assisting the van teams with the loading and unloading of donations to ensure that all loads are secured safely.
• Documenting, sorting, and placing donations onto racks, and shelves so it can be easily accessed.
• Picking and preparing donations from throughout the depot for deliveries and referrals.
• Communicating with staff and volunteers from shops and centres about deliveries and collections.
• Helping customers wanting to purchase items by promoting available stock.
• Following depot guidelines regarding the removal of recycling and unsaleable donations from the warehouse to ensure a safe environment for customers, volunteers, and staff.
• General warehouse duties which will involve the heavy lifting of furniture and other household items.

Skills and Experience
• Good interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and customers from all backgrounds
• Ability to maintain professional standards of confidentiality regarding all aspects of the work of the depot
• Awareness of Health and Safety Procedures within the depot
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed attitude
• Ability to take direction and to work as part of a team
• Trustworthy and capable of being able to work independently at times
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
• Experience of working with vulnerable adults and an understanding of the voluntary sector desirable but not essential

Commitment required
Volunteer Warehouse Operatives will be required to commit 4 hours of their time one day each week.

Induction, Training and Development
Each volunteer will receive an induction and training will be available in all aspects of the role.

Volunteer Warehouse Stock Sorter

Role Summary
To sort through customer donations so that items are ready for sale in our shops or available through our referral system.

Main Duties Include
• Sorting, and placing donations onto racks, and shelves so it can be easily accessed.
• Making up household referral packs e.g., kitchen or bedding.
• Picking and preparing donations for deliveries and referrals.
• Following depot guidelines regarding the removal of recycling and unsaleable donations from the warehouse to ensure a safe environment for customers, volunteers, and staff.
• General warehouse duties which may involve the heavy lifting.

Skills and Experience
• Knowledge of fashion trends, collectables, high-end furniture, and prices (or a willingness to learn).
• Good interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and customers from all backgrounds
• Ability to maintain professional standards of confidentiality regarding all aspects of the work of the depot
• Awareness of Health and Safety Procedures within the depot
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed attitude
• Ability to take direction and to work as part of a team
• Trustworthy and capable of being able to work independently at times
• Experience of working with vulnerable adults and an understanding of the voluntary sector desirable but not essential

Volunteer Warehouse Stock Sorter will be required to commit 4 hours of their time one day each week.

Induction, Training and Development
Each volunteer will receive an induction and training will be available in all aspects of the role.

No experience is needed as training and ongoing support will be provided.
