Sudan: Important update

Through our Twinning links, we have supported local SVP groups in Sudan for decades.

In April 2023, conflict broke out in the capital of Khartoum before escalating to other areas of the country. This ongoing civil war that has left behind a trail of destruction of unimaginable proportions and human misery. Today, it is estimated that more 12.7 million people has been forced to flee their homes, with nine million people living in or on the brink of famine and over 30 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.

In line with international regulations and rules regarding humanitarian funding in conflict zones, and due to the fact the SVP does not specialise in humanitarian emergency response, our funding to SVDP Sudan is currently paused.

We continue to pray and hope that the conflict in Sudan reaches a peaceful and imminent end. Our thoughts remain with our fellow SVP members, the SVDP team, and all those affected by this ongoing and heart-breaking crisis.

As soon as we can do so safely, SVP England & Wales will restart our support to SVDP Sudan.

Love in Action across England & Wales

The SVP in England & Wales are working hard to support Sudanese refugees in their local community through friendship, provision of essentials (clothes, food, furniture, housing), and financial grants.

The Sudan Support Fund invites SVP members and staff at SVP community support centres to apply for funding. Previous grants have previously covered: winter clothing, food parcels, bus passes, sim cards, toiletry bags, mattresses, and more.

In the image to the left, a young man from Sudan receives the key to his own room in a shared home in England. Although not visible as to protect his identity, the young man beams with joy. Having received warm clothing from the local SVP, and food for him to cook, his future is looking little brighter.
