Newcastle Deaf Centre is proud to serve the Deaf Community in the North East for over 95years and lately welcomes also the Deaf Blind members to our community. With regular meetings, we offer activities for everyone! Our Deaf OAP Group meets every Wednesday afternoon; the Deaf Social Club comes together on Saturday or Sunday nights with good numbers attending every week. The Deaf Pastoral Team meets once a month and warmly welcomes everyone to our beautiful Chapel.
Our Deaf Community love a good party, and we’ve had many occasions to celebrate lately. In Spring Our Deaf Social Club celebrated 75th Anniversary in Autumn we honoured our signing priest, Fr. Robert Kinlen for 45 years of service to the Deaf Community.
Also last year we celebrated the 95 years of Partnership between the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and The Deaf community in the region, with the Mass service concelebrated by Fr. Robert and Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle Diocese – Bishop Steven Wright.
Back in September Catholic Deaf Association visited our Centre for their AGM. Fr.John Fisher SJ, a Chaplain to the Deaf Community in England, co-celebrated a mass with Fr. Robert. The event was televised nationally Deaf Community, with Bishop Stephen Wright signing a letter thanking the NDC’s team for precious support to the Deaf community.
With an annual Christmas and Easter party and Mega Bingo session, we see our Deaf community thriving Having a safe space to socialise in helps to maintain friendships many of which go back to their school days. The members travel nationally to see other Deaf Clubs and are always keen to cheer on their beloved Newcastle United whether at home or away. There was great excitement when Newcastle reached the final of the Carabao Cup with several members going to Wembley to watch them win. You’re welcome to help us celebrate by joining their meetings, outings and holidays!
