The DC Family Hub Group was established in 2023 so that families in Newcastle can integrate, flourish and be happy. The DC Family Hub is hosting a fun action packed holiday programme filled with exiting activities! The activities are varied and aim to create a safe, inclusive, healthy, and educational environment that provides children with the means to try out new skills and interests.
There are over 100 children registered on our programme, who meet every Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays. Our aim is to give them as wide a variety of activities as possible and to open them up to experiences they might not otherwise have.
We engage them in sports, often led by the Deaf mentor, with football, tennis, rugby, cricket and badminton skill building being very popular choices for active engagement. We offer recreational trips and educational outings, and visit places of National Trust, English Heritage and Northumberland Wildlife.
Thanks to the programme funders, we also offer a nutritious lunch to each child. Most of our children receive a free school meals and this lessen the financial burden on their parents during holidays.
Art, Theatre Performance and British Sign Language play important part in integrating deaf and hearing families together. They create opportunities for families to come together and communicate through visual language. Over years we see how such approach supports enjoyment and learning whilst building diverse, inclusive and more compassionate community.
