Anti-poverty charity urgently needs funds after seeing 143% increase in requests for help
The St Vincent de Paul Society (England and Wales) launched their annual Christmas Appeal earlier this month to raise funds vital to their work in offering practical and compassionate support to those most in need in society. Currently the SVP is facing one of its most difficult years. It is having to adapt to ever shifting economic times to ensure they continue to keep their Doors of Hope open through the winter months and beyond. This year the charity saw an unparalleled demand for their services with over 309,000 visits made to 48,000 beneficiaries across England and Wales.
All funds raised for the appeal will go towards providing practical assistance, advice and personal support through friendship, a listening ear and heartfelt connections to those in need in communities across England and Wales.
Warm meals, emergency relief and ongoing support are always available for those in need regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or any other circumstances. And vital funds from the Doors of Hope Christmas Campaign will ensure that no one needing help is turned away.
The SVP helps people across England and Wales in many different ways. It’s 11 Community Support Projects (CSPs) sit in some of the most deprived areas. Through Member volunteers who befriend people in need within their local community and help with food vouchers, school uniforms, money worries, or anything else they need. By running camps for younger people who may otherwise not get the chance to have a break from their daily lives. Not only does the SVP help at a grass-roots level, but the charity also lobbies to bring change at a Government providing a strong informed voice for those we help. Key priority areas for the charity are social security, in-work poverty, refugees and people seeking asylum, and tackling regional inequalities and building resilient communities.
