We feed the hungry, we support the homeless, we visit the lonely and we befriend the stranger.
We operate over 40 community shops across England and Wales as well as having an online offering through channels such as eBay. Our charity shops are a major part of our support for local communities. They provide affordable goods and volunteering opportunities. They sell good quality preloved items at reasonable prices, play a significant role in the local reuse and sustainability agenda, and provide a visible presence of the Society.
An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a passionate Assistant Charity Shop Manager to join our retail division at our new shop in Sidcup. This is an exciting opportunity to enable a new shop to flourish with the help of your creativity and skills. You will work alongside a new Shop Manager in a role where your creativity and local knowledge is valued, and where you will be fully supported to succeed along with your shop.
Working Hours = You will be contracted to 22.5 hours per week, this will include working weekends
Location = Sidcup, London
Contract = Permanent
Salary = You will be paid £14,391 per annum (£23,985 FTE)
Responsibilities of our Assistant Charity Shop Manager:
- Support the shop manager to achieve income via shop sales, Gift Aid, donations, recycling, online selling and any other ethical routes in line with our values
- Support the shop manager to maximise Gift Aid and deliver a consistent percentage appropriate to the shop location and ensure all donors are asked if they can Gift Aid
- Support the shop manager to ensure adequate generation of good quality stock through local donations
- Support the shop manager to recruit, train, lead and develop the shop team of Volunteers
- Be a key holder for the shop/ building
- Support the shop manager with the shop’s social media channels within the guidance of the SVP values, in order to engage in the online community for the benefit of their shop and the SVP

St Vincent’s Centre, Southend is an established Trauma informed and person-centred support centre that helps people struggling within our community. We have a range of guests that are struggling with housing, food poverty, digital poverty, budgeting, mental health, cost of living, utilities, life skills and past traumas. We provide a welcoming environment and build trusted relationships that allow us to get to know people. Once we have established a relationship, all our support comes naturally.
We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Facilities & Security Officer that can help to support our guests when they first arrive at the centre. This role entails building effective relationships by listening and providing next steps that meet their needs and at the same time maintaining professional boundaries. You will have good interpersonal skills and be able to deal with a range of age groups in a non-judgemental manner. A reflective practice is vital to ensuring that you can develop your skills to ensure that you can relate to each individual need.
Being flexible, organised, and a strong communicator, you will be able to facilitate our guests so that they will be able to feel welcome, calm and in the right place to talk about their next steps. Building effective partnerships with our tenants, professionals and charities is important for ensuring that we work together for the same vision of supporting people struggling in our community.
Ensuring that the centre is safe for all stakeholders, you will manage the premises ensuring that daily checks are completed, minor repairs are fixed, major repairs are identified and contractors contacted, the is centre clean and tidy and monthly maintenance is completed.
Working Hours = Part time - You will be contracted to work 15 hours per week. Flexibility will be required around how these hours are worked. Sessions are usually held at the Centre from 11am-2pm and 5pm-8pm. This will include weekend work.
Location = St Vincent’s Southend.
Contract =Permanent.
Salary =Up to £9,750 per annum dependant on experience (£12.50 per hour).
Requirements = This role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check and 2 satisfactory references.

The successful candidate will provide support to our Debt Advice clients, working directly with them to help obtain the information required to allow their debt cases to move forward.

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Debt Advice clients with obtaining information needed to allow their case to progress.
- Help clients to gather information and documents identified as being needed by their Debt Advisor.
- Liaising with client's support workers or other nominated support.
- Assisting with grant applications.
- Booking appointments for new clients and gathering basic information required for their appointment.
- Recording notes and data on our internal recording system promptly and clearly.
- Extracting data from credit reports and uploading our case recording system with this.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- The ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines using own initiative.
- An understanding of the issues involved in interviewing clients and the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with clients.
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft word, internet, and email.
- The ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team and work without close supervision.
- Ability to work in a sensitive, enabling and non-judgemental way with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and numeracy skills.

You will deliver triage assessment and advice at first contact to streamline client access to information, self-help, or advice services quickly, efficiently and at an appropriate level. You will also provide advice at outreach venues and over the phone to clients, including; income maximization, through the take up of appropriate benefits and housing issues, form filling, researching & exploring options, & assisting the client where necessary to find an appropriate solution, and written appeal submissions to HMCTS (No court attendance in person necessary).
You will be based out of St Vincent’s Bradford which is a social enterprise hub based in the Barkerend area, providing practical support, training, and opportunities for people to learn skills, build confidence, and be part of a supportive, welcoming community.

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interview clients using sensitive listening and assertive questioning skills to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and to empower them to set their own priorities.
- Deliver appropriate advice during triage and make appropriate judgements about signposting of clients to appropriate self-help resources or booking appropriate appointment at an on-line or physical outreach session.
- Research and explore options and implications so that clients can make informed decisions.
- Act for the client where necessary, for example by calculating, negotiating, drafting or writing letters and telephoning.
- Negotiate with third parties such as statutory and non-statutory bodies as appropriate.
- Refer internally or to other specialist agencies as appropriate.
- Complete all case details on Advice Pro and maintain accurate records in a timely and efficient manner according to policy and procedures.
- Actively engage with the growth and development of the SVP advice services, supporting the involvement and growth of volunteers, trainees, students, and placements within the project.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- To be educated to A-level or equivalent.
- Previous experience in advice giving and triage work.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver appropriate advice on a range of Welfare Advice areas.
- Evidence of up-to-date knowledge of legislation relating to Welfare Advice.
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of IT systems, including case management systems.
- Understanding of the issues affecting society and their implications for clients and service provision.
- Ability to interview clients using sensitive listening and assertive questioning skills to quickly get to the root of the issues and to empower clients, whilst maintaining structure and control of meetings.
- Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information and produce and present clear reports verbally and in writing.
