SVP Centre supporting older people opens in Brighton
Tower House, the SVP’s centre for older people, has opened in Brighton to full applause. Over 30 older people enjoyed conversation over a cuppa, a delicious hot meal, and an entertaining music activity class on Thursday 19th April. Table tennis, cake, and plenty of singing was also thrown into the mix. During the week there is also a Dementia Café, a safe space to support people experiencing memory problems and their carers.
Tucker, a 92 year old widower who has recently started coming to Tower House says it’s the highlight of his week.
“Tower House is my first taste of heaven”, Tucker says. “Everyone is so welcoming and kind, it’s a little what heaven must be like.”
Kate Nightingale, who heads up the SVP’s Community Support Projects around the country, said: “Tower House both serves and celebrates older people. It’s a place of friendship, laughter and support where no one needs to feel alone. We hope that plenty of people will enjoy Tower House centre as we launch more activities and extend our reach.”
