World Kindness Day – SVP Christmas Campaign 2024
Kindness is a force of nature that unites people from all backgrounds, defying the boundaries that separate those from different walks of life. That is why this World Kindness Day we celebrate the launch of the St Vincent de Paul Society’s annual Christmas Campaign to help keep The Doors of Hope open this Christmas.
From the Society’s beginnings in 1833, kindness has always been a truly essential attribute of the work done by our members and those who support us. Without this kindness, we would not be able to do what we do - to serve those who need us most in society. Whether through the kindness of companionship, the hope of a better tomorrow or the knowing that someone cares, the Society will always be there for anyone that needs us.
It was back in January 1844 when a friend of Frederic Ozanam suggested the creation of a new Conference in England. By the end of that year, four had been set up, opening the doors of hope to new people that needed the Society’s guidance and support. Today our work continues from these foundations, established over 180 years ago.
As we think about kindness on this day, we are encouraged to perform simple acts which make a positive difference. Might you consider donating to this year’s Christmas Appeal which will help us to keep the doors of hope open to all who need us this festive period?
It is with these generous donations, no matter how small, that we offer life-changing support to thousands of vulnerable people across England and Wales which makes the SVP what it is today. And we hope to be there for as long as the community needs us. Whatever is needed, whether it is the essentials of living or the comfort of companionship, no matter faith or background - we will always be there, and we will always be kind.
As the National President for the Society in England and Wales, the kindness and hope that our members, staff and volunteers bring to those who need us the most continue to be a driving force for a better tomorrow. As we enter a time of year that many find ever so difficult, please find comfort in the knowledge that the SVP always has, and always will have their doors open.
