Kate Nightingale, CEO of the St Vincent de Paul Society (England and Wales), will take on the New York City Marathon and the London Marathon in a remarkable personal challenge to support the work of the charity.

Currently Kate is preparing to take on two of the world's most iconic marathons after an unexpected double opportunity turned what she thought were her final marathon days into one final challenge.

Having secured a place in the New York City Marathon in her 60th year, Kate was surprised to receive a ballot place for the London Marathon just a week later. The two events will mark a significant milestone in her running journey, which she describes as her last two marathons.

For Kate, the challenge is an opportunity to put her determination and energy behind a cause close to her heart and supporting people experiencing poverty and loneliness.

She said: “These are my final marathons of my life and it seemed fitting to try and raise vital funds for the charity that means so much to me.

“Every day I see just how hard staff, volunteers & members work at the SVP and if I can help raise the vital funds we need to help continue this great work then that will be a great bonus.”

The SVP is a Christian voluntary organisation working in communities across England and Wales. Its volunteer members offer practical help and friendship to people facing difficult circumstances, while its specialist services provide support to people experiencing a range of challenges.

Through local visits, community projects and wider support services, the Society works to ensure that people experiencing hardship are not left to face it alone.
