Manjit's Story
Manjit found the SVP when she was left with serious debt after her husband passed away and the family run community shop became unprofitable. Our local SVP support centre debt advisors, Basharat and Luke, helped Manjit settle the outstanding debt. They made sure she still had a place to live. Manjit always dreamt of educating young women. Volunteering to teach English as a second language at our St Vincent’s centre allows her to fulfil that dream. She also produces homemade dishes to serve in the Vinnie’s Café. Manjit is honoured to serve her community through the SVP and welcomes new people who come through our doors to find hope – as she herself once did.
Catricota's Story
Catricota, fled serious civil and political unrest in his homeland of Guinea Bissau. He arrived in the UK via Portugal with an EU passport and craved a fresh start for his wife and young sons. But he had no resource to any financial help. Our SVP advice team helped the family gain settled status and claim Universal Credit and Disability Living Allowance for their autistic son. Our support centre helped them secure housing and provided clothing, food, furniture, and other essential household items. Catricota and his wife Joy now develop their English language skills at our St Vincent’s centre weekly job club. They are determined to find permanent work and celebrate a better Christmas - thanks to the hope they were given by the SVP.
You'll be helping us give twice as much hope this year - at no extra cost to you.
Thanks to the generosity of some of our supporters, this year we are able to double your donation and turn every £1 into £2.* This means that even more people will receive the vital support, kindness and hope that can turn their lives life around.
" The SVP was there for me when I didn’t know what else to do. You always made time to see me"
- Catherine
