Ann Murphy, who has been a dedicated volunteer at St Vincent’s, has retired following her last shift on Friday, after volunteering at the shop located on Abbeydale Road since 1995.
Nearly 30 years ago the shop was opened to support St Vincent's Sheffield Furniture Project and Ann was one of the first volunteers who has been at the shop ever since it first opened it’s doors.
Speaking about the fond memories she has of volunteering at the shop, Ann explains how it has always given her a sense of worth, gave her lifelong friends, and enjoyed being part of the community.
“It has been very rewarding to work at St Vincent’s, I have made some long-standing friends over the last 29 years, some have sadly passed away now but we have fond memories of our times together running the little shop.
“I will miss seeing the locals and helping the community, but it is now time for me to retire, put my feet up and relax. I wish St Vincent’s all the best in their future plans and I’m sure they will continue to strive. I will call in occasionally to see everyone and will miss everyone all so much.”
Ann’s husband, Kevin, who sadly passed away back in December 2022, was also a part of the wider St Vincent de Paul Society (England and Wales) and was a District Council President who used to organise and run the shop. The pair were married for 58 years and shared five children, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The Abbeydale Road charity shop sells a range of items from homeware to clothes, accessories and more.
